Monitoring of liquid level fluctuations in LNG storage tanks for natural gas heavy-duty trucks.

25 Apr, 2024

Natural gas heavy-duty trucks are gas fueled heavy-duty vehicles that use natural gas as fuel (CNG stands for compressed natural gas; LNG stands for liquefied natural gas). According to the different fuel usage conditions, it can be divided into single fuel natural gas vehicles (engines only use CNG or LNG as fuel) and dual fuel natural gas vehicles (vehicles that use diesel+natural gas, or gasoline+natural gas as fuel). The most widely used is single fuel natural gas vehicles.

Natural gas, as a clean energy source, is rapidly being developed and utilized. At present, China is actively developing liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology from the perspective of changing energy structure and improving environmental conditions.

Natural gas is a multi-component mixed gaseous fossil fuel, which is the earliest and most widely used alternative fuel. It mainly exists in oil and gas fields. After combustion, it does not produce waste gas or wastewater, and has high calorific value, economy, and convenience. In recent years, with the rapid increase in the proportion of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in global energy consumption, the construction of LNG low-temperature storage tanks has been continuously increasing and developing rapidly. LNG storage tanks generally have a large capacity, and even slight liquid level measurement errors can lead to significant capacity errors. Therefore, liquid level measurement and control are very important in storage tanks. This article takes a large LNG low-temperature storage tank as an example to explore a liquid level measurement technology based on a servo level gauge.

LNG storage tanks are important facilities for storing liquefied natural gas, and their safe operation is crucial for ensuring energy supply and preventing accidents. However, LNG storage tanks pose certain safety risks, such as high temperature, abnormal pressure, and liquid level fluctuations. Therefore, establishing a reliable safety monitoring and early warning system is of great significance for improving the safety performance of LNG storage tanks.

LNG heavy-duty trucks are widely used, and CNG is mainly used for micro trucks and small trucks. Natural gas applications can be divided into CNG and LNG, with different sources. CNG is mostly transported in the form of pipeline gas, while LNG is mostly imported directly. CNG is stored in high-pressure and normal temperature steel cylinders, while LNG is stored in medium pressure and low temperature steel cylinders. The high-pressure natural gas formed by compressing natural gas to 20MPa is called compressed natural gas (CNG), which is stored in high-pressure and room temperature steel cylinders; The liquid natural gas formed by ultra-low temperature deep cooling of natural gas to -162 ℃ is called liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is stored in medium pressure low-temperature steel cylinders.

The safety monitoring and early warning system of LNG (liquefied natural gas) storage tanks is crucial for ensuring the safe operation of LNG storage tanks. Multiple sensors and monitoring equipment are used to monitor the temperature, pressure, liquid level and other parameters of the LNG storage tank in real time, detect abnormal situations in a timely manner, and provide early warning. At the same time, the system also combines data analysis and artificial intelligence technology, which can intelligently analyze and predict the safety status of LNG storage tanks, providing more accurate warning information. The experimental results show that the system has high reliability and accuracy in the safety monitoring and early warning of LNG storage tanks, and can effectively improve the safety performance of LNG storage tanks. .

The MaxBotix liquid level ultrasonic sensor - MB7389 MB7380 is a cost-effective solution for applications that require the hrxl maxsonar wr sensor. Accuracy range - search, low voltage operation, space saving, low cost, and IP67 weather forecast resistance.

The hrxl maxsonar wr sensor line provides high-precision and high-resolution ultrasonic proximity for detection and ranging in the air. The characteristics of this sensor line are 1 millimeter resolution, target size, and operating voltage compensation. In order to improve accuracy and better reject external noise sources, temperature compensation for internal velocity and optional external temperature compensation. The hnxl maxsonar wr/wrc model is available in models of 5 or 10 meters. This ultrasonic sensor can detect objects ranging from 1 millimeter to 30 centimeters, and objects within a range of 30 centimeters are usually reported as 30 centimeters. The interface output format is pulse width, analog voltage, and digital serial in RS232 (MB7360 series) or TTL (MB7380 series). Factory calibration is standard.
