Mr. Shen Yushan, a national capitalist, founded the Xiechang Railway Car Shop on Muqiao Street in Zhengjia, Shanghai, and produced China's first domestically branded household sewing machine. From the initial use of the "Golden Lion Brand" trademark to the later use of the "Invincible Brand", it was renamed "Butterfly Brand" due to its homophonic Shanghai dialect and has been in use for a hundred years. The history of the "Shanggong License" industrial sewing machine originated from the state-owned Shanghai Industrial Sewing Machine Factory established by the Huangpu River in 1965. In 1993, it was restructured into Shanghai Industrial Sewing Machine Co., Ltd. and successfully went public. In 1997, it was renamed Shanggong Co., Ltd. In 2005, it merged with Shanghai Shenbei Office Machinery Co., Ltd. and was renamed Shanggong Shenbei (Group) Co., Ltd. At the end of 2016, with the honor of revitalizing Shanghai's old brand, Shanggong Shenbei achieved market-oriented reform of state-owned holding enterprises and became a mixed ownership listed company. As the first sewing machine manufacturer in China, the company has created brilliant business performance and also experienced difficult valleys and hesitations. In 2004, in order to break free from the vicious competition of low prices in the sewing machinery industry, the company actively formulated a business strategy of taking the path of "boutique, differentiation, and globalization". In 2005, as a positive responder to the national "going global" strategy, Shanggong Shenbei Daren successfully acquired Germany's Dukepu Aihua Co., Ltd., embarking on an international journey. Dukepu Aihua is a sewing machine manufacturer with a history of over 150 years, enjoying a high reputation in the global sewing equipment industry. Shanggong Shenbei and Dukepu Aihua achieved a "positive outcome" in the early stages of their merger and acquisition, and seized the opportunity during the global financial crisis in 2009 to successfully surpass their competitors. In 2013, Shanggong Shenbei successfully acquired another century old sewing shop in Germany, Baifu Industry, and KSL Company, a globally leading innovative enterprise in the field of sewing automation applications. They quickly mastered world-class sewing technology, including robot controlled 3D sewing and 360 degree sewing with programmable rotating machine heads, consolidating the company's global leading position in the field of automatic sewing technology. In 2015, Shanggong Shenbei seized the opportunity of domestic industry adjustment and established a joint venture Zhejiang Shanggong Baoshi Sewing Technology Co., Ltd., timely resuming the production and operation of standardized industrial sewing machines; In the same year, it also invested in establishing a domestic production base for medium and thick material sewing machines and parts in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu, forming a "Made in Shanghai" model of research and development and marketing with "two ends in Shanghai" and production and manufacturing with "the middle outside".In 2018, Shanggong Shenbei acquired 65% of the equity of Tianjin Baoying Computer Machinery Co., Ltd. and renamed it Shanggong Fuyi Intelligent Manufacturing (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., accelerating the development of independent CAD software and Chinese intelligent manufacturing of industrial cutting machines, embroidery machines, pattern machines, multi needle machines, mask machines and other special programmable equipment. In 2020, Shanggong Shenbei invested and established Shanggong (Zhejiang) Sewing Machinery Co., Ltd. in Taizhou, Zhejiang, forming an intelligent manufacturing factory with an annual output of 390000 industrial sewing machines. In 2021, Shanghai Butterfly Chain Clothing Digital Technology Co., Ltd. was invested and established in Lingang, Shanghai, to build an M2C platform for clothing and fashion products supported by a digital butterfly sharing factory.
