It has more than ten member companies and professional institutions, including East China Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., Shanghai Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., Shanghai Huajian Engineering Construction Consulting Co., Ltd., Shanghai Water Conservancy Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Modern Architectural Decoration Environmental Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. For more than ten consecutive years, it has been listed as one of the "Top 150 Global Engineering Design Companies" by the US Engineering News Record (ENR), and ranked 51st globally in 2022. The predecessor of the group was the East China Ministry of Industry Architectural Design Company established in 1952 (later renamed as East China Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd.) and the Design Department of the Production Technology Department of the Shanghai Construction Engineering Bureau established in 1953 (later renamed as Shanghai Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd.). In 1998, the "Two Institutes" merged to form Shanghai Modern Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd., becoming the first large-scale enterprise group in the domestic architectural design industry to fully enter the market. On October 30, 2015, it officially landed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, marking a new milestone in enterprise development. The group's business scope covers the entire process of engineering construction projects, including various design consulting services such as planning, architecture, water conservancy, municipal, landscape architecture, interior decoration, geotechnical, architectural acoustics, as well as integrated design, procurement, and construction (EPC) engineering general contracting services. The group has been awarded the "User Satisfaction Enterprise" award and the "National User Satisfaction Service" award by the China Quality Association for many consecutive years. The group's works cover various provinces and cities across the country, as well as more than 60 countries and regions. It has completed over ten thousand engineering design and consulting projects and completed a large number of landmark projects. The group has one national level enterprise technology center and six Shanghai engineering technology research centers. In the past five years, 1262 engineering designs, scientific research projects, and standard designs have won national and provincial (city) level excellent design and scientific research progress awards. Over the years, the group has led and participated in the preparation of more than 260 national, industry, and Shanghai city standards and norms. In the past five years, it has obtained more than 480 intellectual property rights.
